Kyiv to Budapest (10/03/19)
Navigated the underground subway to the airport at 5am this morning and caught my flight to Budapest (Via Riga for some unknowable reason). Not much to say about the flight but once I landed I had to travel to my AirBnB, which I opted for since it was on only 5 euros more per night than a hostel. I though it would be easy to get across the city, and it is, once you know how the bus system works. As I had no idea how it was set up it took me almost 90 minutes to figure everything out, get the proper bus ticket, and successfully catch the right one. But after enough finagling I made my way over to the residential part of the Buda side of town. (West side of the river is Buda, east is Pest).
My hostess Ria is a very nice Hungarian grandma and my room for the next few days is large, comfy, and has full kitchen access, booyea! I went out for dinner at a restaurant Ria recommended for Hungarian food, but unfortunately it was closed. I think. They had lights on and people inside but repeated “closed” and “no open” until I left. So I walked another 15 minutes and found a fancy looking hotel restaurant that wasn’t too expensive. Got legit Hungarian goulash which was absolutely fantastic! Savory and mega paprika spicy. Plus I also got chicken with a paprika sauce + spaetzl which was absolutely killer as well!
Tomorrow I’ll go out and explore this side of the city which I am very excited for!
