Dubai: Day 3 (11/01/19) Surprise Cooking Lessons
I was feeling really anxious about my grad school applications so I decided to take a day to work on them some more and de-stress. I am still having fun but definitely starting to feel the travel burnout. Its rough meeting a whole new set of people every two days and no having any personal space.
My big achievement for the day was making dal from scratch. I was endeavoring on my own for a bit in the kitchen before a lady who scolded me for using too many pans on day 1 came over and offered advice. Well, she said she couldn’t stand to watch me go on like a helpless baby. She was super quiet but I got a little bit of info about her during our impromptu cooking lesson. She’s from Jaipur, India and is staying here for a month while she develops her textile business. The dal turned out really, really good at the end. Turns out toasting your spices in a separate pan and them adding them last minute makes all the difference. Definitely taking that recipe home, plus it was super easy!
