Zadar: Day 2 (10/10/19)
My hostel room has two girls from Ireland and the U.K. who just finished school as well that I met last night and talked with for a couple hours about absolutely nothing. Just swapping stories and bantering, it was refreshing to have a conversation that went past the typical “where ya from, where ya been”. I slept in till around 10:30am this morning and then went out in pursuit of a full day exploring Zadar.
Spent a good part of the morning wandering around in the parks, having breakfast, and just enjoying the perfect weather.Once I had enough green I went into the old town and found myself at the Church of St. Donatus, an octagonal stone church from the 9th century near a scattering of ruins from the town’s Roman Forum. At that point I was getting a bit overheated so I hugged the shore and ended up back at the Sea Organ which was completely carpeted with people. I sat in the shade, had a snack, and people watched while listening to the organ.
Then it was back into town and on to the Museum of Ancient Glass. It was worth the visit, but with the glassblowing workshop demos empty and the whole place pretty much deserted it was a little odd. But cool glass and a lot of history which is all I need from an ancient glass museum! Finishing that, I walked back to the hostel for a quick afternoon nap. I had a failure of of a conversation with a kinda weird older dude from Germany and then went out for pizza. First pizza I’ve had on this trip that I thought was overly greasy, but other than that it was fine. I was suuuuuper hungry and plowed through almost the whole thing in one sitting, so its not like I didn’t enjoy it!
