Zhangjiajie to Xi'an (11/20/19)
My train doesn’t leave until mid-afternoon so I slept in late and dropped by the grocery store nearby. It’s an underground supermarket I found the other day by following signs picturing food. If it wasn’t for a banner with fresh fruit and a large arrow pointing downstairs I never would have known it was there!
I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to bring my produce to the checkout or get it scanned beforehand like the stores in western Europe. So I watched an older couple for what they would do and they handed their produce off to a small counter tucked in back for tagging - so I followed suit with my bananas and cucumbers. I wasn’t sure how long my train ride to Xi’an was going to be, the internet said between 9 and 19 hours, so I also wanted some cup noodles. Assuming there would be a boiling water spout available like last time. The noodle section was huuuge! Like two full isles stacked as tall as me. I had no clue what to get so I just picked out a random selection of big and little bowls, enough for a day and a half if needed.
I returned to my abode, packed up, and walked down to the station. I’m gonna miss Zhangjiajie, there’s still a ton of stuff in the area I haven’t seen and I would have loved to take a gondola up to Tianzi Mountain or see Baofeng Lake, but I suppose that’s for next time!
I didn’t have any trouble finding my train seeing as it was literally the only one at the station, and spent the day eating ramen, looking out the window when the seat wasn’t taken, and watching all my remaining Netflix downloads. We were still a ways out at 9pm so I crawled into bed to try and get some sleep since I knew an attendant would wake me up when we got close.
