Gryon: Day 2 (8/28/19)

Got up at 8am to see off an Australian couple I met last night as they were headed home. Then took the morning off to chill and do a bit of cooking. I took a much needed post-lunch nap for a couple hours, after which I hiked up to the top of the backyard ridge and then followed a little backroad through a dense forest to the village just up the hill, La Barboleuse. Just a few hours but quite pleasant. Plus I met a good doggo on the way back!

  I bought some groceries for cauliflower curry after scoping out the old church in town. It seems open to the public and you can actually climb up the main tower via some dusty wooden ladders and see the bell’s clockwork! A little sketchy but that just amped up the spirit of adventure! The was an organ loft that was unfortunately licked up tight but there is a piano near the front which seems open for playing. I might try to find the vicar later this week and check out the organ! Worse comes to worst and I can’t find him I want to at least play the piano for a bit – I’m going through keyboard withdrawal at this point.

A guy from Amsterdam, Sydney, was playing the guitar in the common room when I got back and we had a chat about music for a good while. We got along and are gonna go hiking together tomorrow! There’s a route that should make for a fun 6 hours or so plus a nearby ridge summit. Super pumped for it! I had planned to dodge out of the campfire gathering tonight but I got pulled in by some of the folks from last night who are doing a work-stay here. They’re neat people but run their life real different from me, generally hitting 3 or 4 different drugs throughout the day before heading into the valley to party hearty.
